Classes

Welcome to the spring 2017 workshop schedual.

We are pleased to offer the following classes this semester.  All our classes are taught by experienced knitters/crocheters with teaching experience.  Classes are capped at 6 participants to ensure you get the attention you require to gain confidence and enjoy your learning experience in our relaxed shop setting.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis.  Come by the store to secure your spot today.

Learn to Knit

 

$45 plus materials

Thurs, 7-9 PM

 

Feb 23, Mar 2, 9

If you haven’t knit before or if you are coming back to knitting this class will give you confidence with the basics.

Skills learned: measuring gauge, cast on, knit, purl, decreases, button holes, and cast off.

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 4.5mm wood needles and worsted or aran weight yarn (the label should read 18 to 20 sts to 4ins).

Fair isle Cup Cozy

This introductory class to colour work knitting will have you knitting in the round using two colours simultaneously. Different colour work techniques and origins will be discussed in this comprehensive class.

Pre-requisites: cast on, experience knitting in the round.

Skills learned: throwing and picking stitches, colour theory, and colour work techniques

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 3.5mm dpns, or circulars for knitting in the round. Yarn will be selected in 1st class.

Felted Slippers

Back by popular demand, felted slippers to keep your feet cozy.

Pre-requisites: cast on, knit, purl, cast off.

Skills learned: using a circular needle, short rows, picking up stitches, three needle bind off, and felting.

Pattern: Fiber Trends pattern AC33.

Materials: 3 skeins Cascade 220, 9mm 60cm circular needles, and opening stitch markers.

Before 1st class: With 9mm needles and 2 strands of yarn cast on 20sts. Row 1: knit. Row 2: Purl. Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 4 ins.

Join us to learn techniques and hints to take your knitting from everyday to professional.

Pre-requisites: cast on, knit, purl, cast off.

Skills learned: multiple techniques to cast on, decrease, increase, short rowing, mattress stitch, and grafting.

Materials: 4.5mm needles and 50g smooth light colour yarn.

Knitted lace tea light cozy

Come and make this pretty tea light cozy and learn how to knit basic lace and apply a fancy edging.

Pre-requisites: confident using double pointed needles or magic loop.

Skills learned: provisional crochet cast on, life lines, reading lace patterns and charts, adding an edging.

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 1 ball Hempton and 3.5mm double pointed needles or 100cm circular needle.

Before 1st class: With 3.5mm needles cast on 28sts.  Row 1: Knit.  Row 2: Purl.  Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 4 inches.

Summer cowl

Learn to crochet

Take this introductory crochet class to learn the basics and gain confidence in your crochet skills.

Skills learned: chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet, keeping your edges straight, and reading a pattern.

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 50g worsted weight yarn (light colour and smooth), and a 4.5mm crochet hook.

Knitting with Charts - Show me don't tell me!

 

$60 plus materials

Have you ever wanted to try a pattern but found the charts overwhelming? Already like using charts but shy away from patterns that don't include them? This class is for you.

Pre-requisites: confidence with basic lace knitting (SSK, K2tog, YO).

Skills learned: reading and knitting lace and cables using charts, creating charts from written instructions, and if time allows designing and learning how a charted design can be the beginning of a finished project.  

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 5.5mm needles, and 100gm worsted weight yarn

Crochet market bag

 

$45 plus materials

A follow up to the learn to crochet class. Come and make a bag perfect for shopping at the farmers market all summer.

Pre-requisites: completion of learn to crochet or able to ch, sc and dc with confidence.

Skills learned: making a spiral base, tracking you stitches and rows, lace, and colour changes.

Pattern: provided in class.

Materials: 150g worsted weight yarn, 4mm, and 4.5mm crochet hooks.

Before 1st class: With 4mm crochet hook ch 30.  Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook sc, sc in each ch.  Row 2: Ch2, sc in each sc.  Repeat Row 2 for 3 ins.
